On the night of October 23, there was a loud noise in the Ryazan region of Russia. A fire broke out at one of the enterprises as a result of a drone attack, according to the Russian Telegram channel Astra.
According to the local governor, Russian air defense forces allegedly destroyed 14 drones, but the debris caused a fire.
"Last night, 14 UAVs were destroyed by air defense forces over the Ryazan region. The falling debris caused a fire on the territory of one enterprise... Emergency services are working at the site," the governor said.
He added that there were no casualties and that material damage was still being assessed.
Residents speculate that the target was the Ryazan oil refinery, one of the largest in Russia. The plant processes more than 17 million tons of oil per year and plays a key role in supplying fuel to Russian troops.
Attacks on Ryazan refinery
This is not the first time the Ryazan Refinery has been attacked by drones. Since the beginning of 2025, the plant has been targeted by drones at least five times. One of the most massive attacks took place on January 24 this year, when three fuel tanks and a production workshop caught fire.
On the night of September 5, units of the Unmanned Systems Forces, in cooperation with other components of the Ukrainian Defense Forces, again struck the Ryazan oil refinery. At that time, a hit on the primary oil refining facility was recorded.
The strike on the same facility was officially confirmed by the commander of Ukraine's aerial reconnaissance unit, Robert Brovdi, who noted that the attack was carried out by units of the Security Service of Ukraine. As a result of these actions, the plant's infrastructure was significantly damaged.
In March and May 2024, drones also attacked this refinery, causing massive fires. According to Ukraine's General Staff, the strikes on Russian oil refineries are intended to reduce Russia's ability to supply its army with fuel and undermine its economic stability.
On August 26, a powerful explosion occurred on the Ryazan-Moscow main oil pipeline in the Ryazan region, which is one of the key sources of oil products supply to Moscow.
