Man in US faces trial for threats against Harris
In the US, a court has charged Virginia resident Frank Carrillo, who threatened Vice President Kamala Harris with violence, according to BBC.
66-year-old Carrillo was arrested for threats made against Harris on the conservative site GETTR. He wrote that the Vice President "needs to be put on fire alive." In another post, he threatened that Harris would "regret ever trying to become president".
Carrillo was detained on August 2. During a search of his home, FBI agents confiscated an AR-15 rifle, a machine gun, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.
Law enforcement believes Carrillo "knowingly and willfully make a threat to take the life of and to inflict bodily harm" on Harris. A total of 4,359 of his threatening messages were found, directed at various individuals or groups, including 19 messages targeting Harris.
Carrillo's threats against Harris were posted after the Vice President began participating in the election campaign.
BBC reports that in the US, threats against the President, Vice President, or certain other officials carry "a prison sentence of up to five years".
What preceded it
Kamala Harris began her bid for the US presidency after President Joe Biden decided to withdraw his candidacy.
She has already held several campaign rallies and has also indicated her willingness to participate in debates with former President Donald Trump.
Last week, Harris was officially chosen as the Democratic Party's presidential candidate. This decision was made by a majority vote.
