French President Emmanuel Macron said he discussed the situation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and urged Tehran to immediately stop unacceptable attacks on Middle East countries, Macron reported.
The French leader stressed that Iran's attacks are carried out both directly and through proxies, affecting in particular Lebanon and Iraq.
According to Macron, France's involvement in the region is limited exclusively to a defensive policy aimed at protecting national interests, cooperating with partners, and ensuring freedom of navigation.
He noted that any attempt to make France target of aggression is unacceptable.
Consequences of escalation and humanitarian risks
Macron stressed that uncontrolled escalation provokes chaos across entire region with long-term consequences.
According to him, people suffer both in Iran and in neighboring countries as a result, which makes the situation critical from the perspective of security and humanitarian stability.
The French leader said that peace and stability are possible only through the creation of a new system of political and security guarantees that will ensure control over Iran's nuclear program and accountability for threats coming from the missile program and the destabilizing actions of Tehran.
Restoration of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
Macron also called on Iran to restore freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz, stressing the importance of this step for the global economy and security of maritime routes.
In his opinion, this is necessary to prevent further escalation and protect regional and international interests.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Russia supplies Iran with weapons and directs funds from the sale of energy resources to support the Iranian regime, creating a threat to security in the Middle East.
US President Donald Trump said that Iran's military potential has been eliminated, but the country retains the ability to carry out targeted strikes on shipping routes. He called on world leaders to unite efforts to protect a strategically important maritime artery.
