Macron to visit Egypt for Gaza peace talks amid US-mediated ceasefire

French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Egypt for a summit expected in the coming days to discuss a peace agreement for Gaza, Le Monde reports.
The Élysée Palace said Macron will travel to Egypt on Monday, October 13, to support a US-mediated ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
He is expected to take part in discussions on the next steps for implementing the agreement. The meetings will be held at the Egyptian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on the Red Sea, which previously hosted talks between mediators from Israel and Hamas.
The French President's Office did not say whether Macron will meet with US President Donald Trump. It noted that the trip is part of a Franco-Saudi initiative aimed at strengthening peace and security in the Middle East, based on a "two-state solution" supporting the coexistence of Israel and Palestine.
In September, France recognized the State of Palestine, a move that sparked anger and criticism from Israel and the United States. The trip also comes amid a political crisis in France, where Macron recently reappointed Sébastien Lecornu as Prime Minister and tasked him with forming a new government.
Earlier reports indicated that Trump planned a summit with global leaders to discuss further peace efforts in Gaza.
This week marked the first stage of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The Israel Defense Forces have already pulled back to agreed-upon positions, and Hamas militants are now expected to release all detained hostages soon.
Trump is also scheduled to visit Israel in the coming days as part of his peace efforts.
