Several European and non-European countries have expressed interest in joining the coalition to deploy troops in Ukraine, informs Ladepeche, citing French President Emmanuel Macron.

"What we are working on is a coalition that is open, that is to say, it is a Franco-British initiative, but I confirm to you that several European countries, and indeed non-European ones, have expressed their willingness to join such an effort when it is confirmed," Macron explained.

He added that the goal is not the mass deployment of European troops but the deployment of several thousand soldiers from each country at key points. According to Macron, this is aimed at strengthening Ukraine's defense.

"We are signing the strategic presence on Ukrainian soil of nations that are members of NATO, and that is a guarantee of security from the moment there is a refusal on the part of the United States and several members to allow Ukraine to join NATO," Macron concluded.

Earlier today, Macron outlined four key elements of security guarantees for Ukraine:

  • Immediate support for Ukraine;
  • Creation of a Ukrainian army format;
  • The possibility of deploying troops based on a voluntary coalition;
  • Strengthening European defense.

For more details on each of them, read RBC-Ukraine's report.

As a reminder, national security advisers from Germany, the UK, and France visited the US yesterday. They traveled to Washington for talks with US National Security Adviser Mike Waltz.

Earlier, RBC-Ukraine reported that on March 11, Ukrainian and American delegations discussed the US initiative for a ceasefire with Russia. In the end, Kyiv supported it.

As noted by Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, this step could mark the beginning of the path to ending the war.
