'Lot of people want me to do it': Trump puts rumors of third term to rest

President Donald Trump stated that he does not plan to run for US President for a third time. According to him, he is focused on his current term, NBC News reports.
In an interview for the program "Meet the Press," Trump said that he had received many requests from allies to run again after a second term, but he understands the legal limitations.
"I'll be an eight-year President, I'll be a two-term President. I always thought that was very important," Trump emphasized.
According to the US President, a third term is something that, "as far as he knows, is not allowed." He added that he's not sure whether it's explicitly stated in the Constitution, although the 22nd Amendment prohibits being elected to the President's office more than twice.
Despite his previous statements and speculation, including the sale of red caps with the inscription "Trump 2028," Trump said that he has no plans to run for a third time. He explained that he plans to have a successful term and hand over the baton to "a strong Republican."
Potential successors
Trump also mentioned several potential leaders of the Republican Party who, in his opinion, could carry on the course after him. In particular, he highlighted Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
According to the President, Vance might have an advantage in future elections, but he avoided directly endorsing anyone as his successor.
"It could very well be. I don't want to get involved in that. I think he's a fantastic, brilliant guy. Marco is great. There's a lot of them that are great," Trump added.
Midterm elections
At the same time, Trump clarified that these discussions are still too premature. For now, he is more focused on preparing for the 2026 midterm elections, during which the Republican Party will try to maintain control of both chambers of Congress.
He also confirmed that he will play a "very active" role in this election campaign.
Trump's third term
Earlier, Donald Trump had stated that he did not rule out the possibility of running for a third presidential term. He said he was "not joking"and that there are "methods" that would allow bypassing legal restrictions.
Before that, a group of Trump supporters initiated a constitutional amendment to allow him to run in 2028.
And recently, Trump's online store began selling merchandise with the slogan "Trump 2028." It is in 2028 that the next presidential election in the US will take place, in which Trump is prohibited from running for a third time.
