Supporters of US President Donald Trump are initiating a constitutional amendment to allow him to run for office in 2028. His allies have already proposed a corresponding amendment, according to NBC.

A group of supporters of US President Donald Trump are initiating changes to the US Constitution to allow him to remain in office for another term.

Trump himself did not oppose this initiative, while his associates are actively promoting this idea among conservative voters.

According to the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, one cannot be elected president more than twice. However, Republican Congressman Andy Ogles of Tennessee has already filed a resolution to amend the constitution to extend the presidential term to 12 years.

At the recent Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) near Washington, D.C., activists presented the Third Term Project, which calls for support for constitutional amendments.

One of the organizers of the initiative, Shane Trejo, said that the goal of the campaign is to convince conservative Republicans to support the proposed amendment.

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon also supported the initiative, saying: “We want Trump in ’28. That’s what they can’t stand. A man like Trump comes along only once or twice in a country’s history. We want Trump!”

Despite the enthusiasm of supporters, legal experts note that the adoption of such an amendment will be extremely difficult, as it will require the approval of two-thirds of Congress and ratification by three-quarters of the states.

Trump was officially inaugurated on January 20, 2025. It is now his second term, during which he promised to stop all wars.

Even before the start of the 2024 presidential campaign, there were debates between Donald Trump and Joe Biden, potential candidates from the Republican and Democratic parties. Western experts and media recognized the results of the debate as more successful for Trump.

Andy Ogles introduced a two-page resolution proposing changes to the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution. Ogles' amendment would allow any president to be elected to a third term if his or her first two terms were not consecutive.

The text of the amendment also leaves in place a ban on a third term if the previous two were uninterrupted (this would prohibit former Presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton from running again), and also prohibits a third full term for those who served more than two years in place of another president.
