Republicans propose amending US Constitution to allow Trump third term
Republican Andy Ogles (Tennessee) introduced a resolution in the House of Representatives to amend the US Constitution, allowing President Donald Trump to run for a third term, the American news website Axios reports.
As the media resource notes, the approval of this amendment is highly unlikely: for it to be added to the Constitution, it requires two-thirds of votes in both chambers of Congress and ratification by 38 states.
The amendment has little chance of being ratified, but it serves as a sign of the deep loyalty enjoyed by the new President in the Republican Party's House of Representatives.
Republican members of the House of Representatives have rushed to introduce bills that would systematize Trump's vision for expanding US borders, such as by acquiring Greenland and the Panama Canal.

Ogles introduced a two-page resolution to make changes to the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution, which currently limits Presidents to two terms.
Ogles’ amendment would allow any President to be elected to a third term if their first two terms were not consecutive.
The amendment’s text still prohibits a third term if the first two terms were consecutive (which prevents former Presidents George Bush, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton from running again), or a third full term for anyone who served more than two years of someone else's term.
"It is imperative that we provide President Trump with every resource necessary to correct the disastrous course set by the Biden administration. He is dedicated to restoring the republic and saving our country, and we, as legislators and as states, must do everything in our power to support him," Ogles said in a statement.
Ogles is a member of the Trump-aligned House Freedom Caucus, which introduced legislation to allow him to negotiate a purchase of Greenland.
