The EU must act quickly to increase aid to Ukraine. There are currently several key steps to take, informs Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda on X.

"First, on Ukraine: use frozen Russian assets immediately to support Ukraine's military. Provide €20bn in additional defense aid, as proposed by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Discuss a European peacemaker force," Nausėda wrote.

He also noted that the second step concerns the European Union. In his view, member states should:

  • increase investments in defense,
  • significantly strengthen the defense industry,
  • allocate more funds to the portfolio of the Commissioner for Defense and Space, Andrius Kubilius,
  • implement joint projects with the United Kingdom and Norway.

"I will discuss these issues tomorrow with Starmer and Tuesday with Giorgia Meloni. This leads to a special meeting of the European Council on March 6, where important decisions must be made!" he concluded.

Zelenskyy and Trump’s dispute

On February 28, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Washington. A meeting occurred at the White House between President Zelenskyy, US President Donald Trump, and Vice President JD Vance.

The leaders were supposed to sign a deal on Ukrainian minerals.

However, during the conversation at the White House, a dispute broke out between Zelenskyy, Trump, and US Vice President JD Vance concerning the war in Ukraine.

After the argument, Trump gathered with his key advisors in the Oval Office. Later, Volodymyr Zelenskyy left the White House earlier than expected.

US President Trump accused the Ukrainian president of being supposedly unprepared for peace.
