Lithuania summons Russian diplomat over recent attacks on Ukraine
Lithuania has summoned a representative of the Russian embassy in Vilnius to express a strong protest over the recent missile and drone strikes on Ukraine, according to the press service of the Lithuanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
"Lithuania strongly condemns Russia's war against Ukraine, including these acts of brutal aggression, and calls on Russia to immediately cease it. The Russian political and military leadership, guilty of the crime of aggression against Ukraine, must inevitably be held legally responsible," the statement said.
It emphasizes that those who carry out missile and drone strikes on Ukrainian cities and their residents, civilian, and critical infrastructure that is considered a war crime under international law will not escape responsibility.
"Russia will also be obliged to compensate Ukraine and its people for all the destruction and losses caused by the illegal war," the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said.
At the same time, Lithuania calls on the international community to strengthen military support for Ukraine, helping it adequately defend itself against Russian military aggression, and to pursue a more principled policy towards Russia and its supporters based on complete international isolation and harsh international sanctions.
