Russian terrorists fired 99 missiles of various types and 35 Shahed kamikaze drones at Ukraine at night and in the morning of January 2. The Ukrainian air defense forces managed to destroy 75 missiles and all drones, according to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi.

"On the night of January 2, 2024, the enemy repeated a massive attack with various types of air attack, as it was a few days ago - on December 29, 2023. Civilian and critical infrastructure and industrial and military facilities were attacked. The main direction of the attack is the capital of Ukraine," Zaluzhnyi writes.

In the first wave, the Shaheds attacked from the southeast, with further movement to different regions of Ukraine.

All 35 Shahed-136/131 attack UAVs were destroyed by air defense.

In the morning, Russians used strategic aviation - Tu-95MS bombers. 16 aircraft reached the launch line at about 6:00 a.m. and launched at least 70 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 air-launched cruise missiles.

Starting at 07:30, ten Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missiles were launched from MiG-31K fighters.

The enemy also attacked from the sea with three Kalibr cruise missiles, and from the north with 12 Iskander-M/S-300/S-400 ballistic missiles.

Four Kh-31P anti-radar missiles were used from Su-35 tactical aircraft.

According to preliminary results, the enemy used 99 air attack weapons - missiles of various types.

Ukrainian Air Defense Forces in cooperation with the units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces destroyed 72 air targets:

  • 10 out of 10 Kh-47M2 Kinzhal aerial ballistic missiles;
  • 59 out of 70 Kh-101/Kh-555/Kh-55 cruise missiles;
  • 3 out of 3 Kalibr cruise missiles.

Russian attack on Ukraine on January 2

Early in the morning of January 2, Russian troops launched missiles at Ukraine. Kyiv and Kharkiv came under a massive attack, with explosions heard in other regions as well.
