Prime Minister of Lithuania Ingrida Šimonytė, during a telephone conversation with her Czech colleague Petr Fiala, stated that Lithuania has decided to join the Czech initiative to purchase and transfer artillery ammunition to Ukraine outside the EU.

"This is a very important initiative, especially in this period, when the supply of ammunition to Ukraine has slowed down," says Šimonytė.

She did not say in what way Lithuania will help the Czech initiative and what amount it is ready to donate.

Lithuanian Prime Minister emphasized that her country will continue to support all forms of assistance that will increase Ukraine's ability to effectively defend itself against Russian aggression.

Czech initiative

Earlier it became known that Czechia found 800,000 155mm and 122mm artillery shells for Ukraine, with potential delivery to the Armed Forces in the coming weeks.

France and the Netherlands supported a plan to purchase ammunition outside of Europe to quickly deliver much-needed military equipment to Ukraine. An offer is expected to be made in early March.

The Netherlands announced the allocation of more than 100 million euros to Ukraine for the Czech initiative to purchase artillery shells outside the EU.

Belgium also allocated 200 million euros for the Czech initiative to purchase artillery ammunition, which Ukraine urgently needs.

It was recently informed that the Ukrainian military is about to receive the first batch of hundreds of thousands of 155 mm artillery shells as part of an international effort to find ammunition.
