It is still too early to discuss sending peacekeepers to Ukraine, as there are no obvious preconditions, the Public Broadcasting of Latvia reports, citing Andris Sprūds, Minister of Defense of Latvia.

Sprūds stated that they could only discuss the possibility of such a mission after Russia and Ukraine reach a peace agreement.

"There are various missions. It's simply too early to talk about a specific mission in Ukraine. Right now, there is no such format, and there are no obvious preconditions for it. Once we reach such preconditions or a format, we can talk about the next steps," the Minister of Defense of Latvia stated.

Meanwhile, former commander of the Latvian Armed Forces Raimonds Graube believes that Latvia should join the mission if it is implemented, as the country would be able to receive "similar help in similar cases."

"This is a very strong and important message. We cannot expect help only for ourselves and not offer assistance to those who need it," Graube added.

Issue of sending foreign troops to Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron first raised the issue of sending peacekeepers. His words initially sparked a lively discussion among Ukraine's partners, but there were also those who supported the idea.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, such a mission is one of the best tools to force the enemy into peace. In particular, Zelenskyy confirmed that this issue is already being discussed with Ukraine's allies.
