Latvian Prime Minister Evika Silina said that the idea of creating a "drone wall" along the EU's eastern border is "very raw", Bloomberg reports.

According to her, none of the European countries "really knows all the details."

"We really need to cooperate together with other European countries because now the drone threats are reaching not just the Baltic states, but Copenhagen, other countries of Europe," Silina added.

She also said that all signs indicate that drone incursions will remain a risk in the near future.

"Now, drones are much cheaper. Russia is able to manufacture or even buy them from other partner countries," Silina noted.

She added that the European Union must be ready to repel hybrid attacks on "European soil." In her view, such attacks could intensify as Russia struggles in its war against Ukraine.

Drone wall

Earlier, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed creating a "drone wall" to defend against hostile drones.

The EU says that the expansion of the drone defense system must happen quickly, given recent airspace violations in several countries.

Recently, seven EU countries, Ukraine, and the European Commission held talks on creating the drone wall.

Slovak President Peter Pellegrini also said his country will do everything necessary to become part of the drone wall project.

RBC-Ukraine previously reported that the "drone wall" on the EU's eastern borders could be used, among other things, to monitor Russia's shadow fleet.
