The issue of territories will be a key topic of discussion at the trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the US, and Russia in Abu Dhabi, Axios reports.

According to the agency, the US is close to reaching an agreement with Ukraine on a peace plan, but has not yet achieved clear success in involving the Russian side, although it has not categorically rejected the proposed plan.

According to Axios sources, the issue of territories in eastern Ukraine will be the main topic of discussion during the trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi.

US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and delegation member Jared Kushner have already left for Abu Dhabi to participate in the negotiations. According to a Ukrainian official, US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll will also join them.

The Ukrainian side will be represented at the meeting by National Security and Defense of Ukraine Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Budanov, his deputy Sergiy Kyslytsya, and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hnatov.

Russia will be represented at the talks by Kirill Dmitriev, as well as a delegation headed by GRU Chief Igor Kostyukov.

Background

On January 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump met in Davos. It was also announced at the World Economic Forum that the first trilateral meeting between Ukraine, the US, and Russia would take place on January 23.

Also on Thursday, January 22, a meeting was held in the Kremlin between US Special Envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner and Vladimir Putin, which was also attended by Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev. It lasted 3.5 hours.

Following this meeting, Russia confirmed that the first meeting of the trilateral working group on security issues, involving representatives from Russia, the US, and Ukraine, will take place in Abu Dhabi today, January 23.
