The first meeting of the trilateral security working group with representatives from Russia, the US, and Ukraine will take place in Abu Dhabi on Friday, January 23, according to statements by Russian leader Vladimir Putin’s adviser, Yuri Ushakov.

According to Ushakov, Russia’s security working group will include representatives from the country’s Ministry of Defense leadership and will be headed by GRU Chief Igor Kostyukov.

Ushakov noted that the delegation received specific instructions from Putin.

Dmitriev and Witkoff will meet in Abu Dhabi as heads of the US-Russia bilateral economic working group.

The aide to the Russian leader also noted that the Russian side stated that without resolving the territorial issue, long-term settlement in Ukraine should not be expected, and that Russia will continue to address matters on the battlefield until a settlement is reached.

According to Ushakov, Russia and the US agreed to maintain close contacts on Ukraine and other topics.

On Thursday, January 22, a meeting took place at the Kremlin between US special representatives Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, Russian leader Vladimir Putin, and Yuri Ushakov and Kirill Dmitriev. The meeting lasted 3.5 hours.

Witkoff has previously visited Moscow several times and met with the leader. Despite statements from Washington officials claiming Russia is ready for peace, there are no signs of it.

Also on January 22, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump met in Davos.

Both the Ukrainian presidential office and Trump himself described the meeting as positive.
