Zelenskyy’s Office urges EU to set clear accession date

Kyiv expects the European Union to establish a concrete date for Ukraine’s accession to the bloc. It is necessary to secure the country’s membership in advance, said Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Ihor Zhovkva.
He urged EU representatives not to hesitate in setting a membership date, provided Ukraine fulfills its obligations - a process that is already underway. He emphasized that Kyiv would insist on this when discussing potential agreements or official documents.
He also noted that without a clear membership commitment, achieving a just and lasting peace would remain incomplete.
Zhovkva called on the EU to match Ukraine’s pace in the integration process, pointing out that despite three months passing this year, negotiations on opening the first accession cluster had yet to begin.
Lithuania's proposal
Earlier, Lithuanian Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys recalled the proposal of Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda for Ukraine's membership in the EU.
The idea is that Ukraine should officially become a member of the European Union on 1 January 2030.
At the same time, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal noted that Ukraine could become a member of the EU immediately after the war with Russia.
