The National Cultural, Art, and Museum Complex Mystetskyi Arsenal was damaged during a massive Russian attack on Kyiv on the night of June 15. A fire broke out at the site, according to the State Emergency Service (SES) and the press service of Mystetskyi Arsenal.
The institution said that a fire occurred on the premises as a result of another Russian attack on Kyiv. Preliminary reports suggest it was caused by a strike from a Shahed attack drone.
Rescuers and relevant emergency services are currently working at the site. Specialists are assessing the scale of destruction and the impact on the building. According to the institution, all staff are safe.
“For many people, Mystetskyi Arsenal is a place of encounter with culture, history, and important public discussions. Today, Russian aggression once again strikes at Ukraine’s cultural heritage,” the statement said.
What is known about the fire
According to the State Emergency Service, the fire covered an area of about 1,000 square meters in the Mystetskyi Arsenal complex.
Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said the strike occurred while emergency crews were dealing with the aftermath of another attack in the city center.
“At the time when rescuers were trying to extinguish the fire in the main cathedral of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the occupiers carried out a second strike nearby — targeting the Mystetskyi Arsenal National Cultural and Museum Complex,” he said.
Emergency services are still working at the scene, and the extent of the damage is being clarified.
