Ukraine and the US resolved most issues regarding security guarantees during a leaders-level meeting, Jared Kushner, son-in-law of the US leader, stated this at a press conference following the Coalition of the Willing meeting.
"So, with regards to the security guarantees, were extensive conversations about that with President Zelenskyy (President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy – ed.) and President Trump (US President Donald Trump - ed.) at Mar-a-Lago, and I think that they really resolved most if not all the issues that are outstanding on that," Kushner said.
He clarified that the security guarantees were developed over the past month in consultations with Ukrainians and Europeans. At the same time, today’s “coalition of the willing” meeting marked a "big milestone" in these negotiations.
According to Kushner, such agreements do not mean that peace will be achieved, but ending the war is impossible without such progress.
"If Ukraine is going to make a final deal, they have to know that after a deal, they are secure. They have obviously a robust deterrence, and there's real backs stops to make sure that this will not happen again," he said.
The US leader’s son-in-law also added that, based on Trump’s assessments and his conversations with Putin, the correct agreement would mean that both sides de-escalate the situation, there will be monitoring mechanisms, as well as de-escalation tools in case the terms of the agreement are violated.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Today, January 6, a leaders-level meeting of the Coalition of the Willing took place in Paris.
Following the meeting, Ukraine, the United Kingdom, and France signed a declaration of intent regarding the deployment of forces on Ukrainian territory. This is effectively the first step toward stationing a contingent of Western countries in Ukraine.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer also stated that military hubs will be established across Ukraine after a ceasefire.
