European Union countries are mistaken in believing that dialogue with Russia must be conducted from a position of strength, according to Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
"This is the biggest mistake—whether it stems from incompetence, misinformation, or stupidity, we don't know for sure, but it's a fact," he says.
Peskov notes that to participate in negotiations, Europe needs to familiarize itself with the real state of affairs, particularly regarding the conflict in Ukraine, and adds that it was allegedly not Moscow that initiated the suspension of contacts with the EU.
He also claims that Kyiv is in a very difficult position, yet continues to adhere to a line that is not geared toward negotiations.
At the same time, the Kremlin spokesperson states that negotiating with Russia from a position of strength would lead nowhere. He also announces new strikes on targets in Ukraine.
At the same time, Peskov emphasizes that Russia is allegedly ready for peace talks, noting that Putin has repeatedly declared Moscow’s readiness for dialogue.
Following the Ukrainian strike on the Moscow oil refinery, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appealed to Russian citizens to put pressure on Putin if they want to put an end to the consequences of the war unleashed by the Kremlin.
Zelenskyy noted that, according to available data, over half of Russians support an end to hostilities. At the same time, he emphasized that residents of Russia see that the Russian army has made no significant progress on the front lines.
