The Kremlin currently has no "clear outlines" of a deal with the United States regarding a ceasefire with Ukraine, but "rather intense work" is underway in this direction, states Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, according to TASS.

“We hope for the best, that this work will yield positive results. At the moment, we would not specify any exact timeframes,” Peskov said.

According to him, contacts with the United States, including meetings with US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff, were positive and useful.

“We view the constructive and substantive contacts that took place very, very positively. Rather intense work is underway. You know there is an exchange of information at the highest level, so to speak. I’m referring to the recent meeting in St. Petersburg between Putin and Mr. Witkoff,” the Kremlin spokesman added.

Witkoff–Putin negotiations

The US special envoy recently visited Moscow, where he met with Russia’s investment envoy Kirill Dmitriev.

According to Reuters, Witkoff later told US President Donald Trump that the quickest path to peace in Ukraine would allegedly be to grant Russia ownership of four eastern Ukrainian regions.

During his trip to Russia, the special envoy also met with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Following that meeting, Witkoff stated that the so-called “five territories” are the “key” to ending the war in Ukraine.
