The US President's Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, after a meeting with dictator Vladimir Putin, stated that the "key" to ending the war in Ukraine lies in the so-called "five territories," Bloomberg reports.

Commenting on the recent talks with Putin, Witkoff called them "compelling" and stated that they discussed steps that could bring an end to the war in Ukraine, as well as create new opportunities for business.

According to the US Special Envoy, during the conversation, the Russian dictator allegedly asked him to secure a "permanent peace." The key to a general agreement, as Witkoff explained, revolves around the "five territories." At the same time, he did not provide any details.

"This peace agreement is about the so-called five territories, but there's a lot more to it. There are security protocols, there's Article 5 of NATO, a lot of details. It's a complicated situation, rooted in some real problematic things that are happening between the two countries," Witkoff added.

According to the US Special Envoy, Putin also raised the issue regarding NATO's core principle, under which an attack on one member is considered an attack on all members.

Witkoff-Putin talks

Recently, the US Special Envoy visited Moscow, where he met with Russia's Envoy for Investment Kirill Dmitriev.

As Reuters reported, Witkoff later informed US President Donald Trump that the quickest step toward peace in Ukraine would supposedly be to grant Russia ownership over four eastern Ukrainian regions.

Furthermore, during the trip, the US Special Envoy also met with Putin.
