The Kremlin is "concerned" about the negative impact of the failures of the war in Ukraine on the results of the Russian presidential election in 2024, according to the Institute for the Study of War.
In particular, in his presidential campaign, Putin wants to focus on Russia's internal affairs and criticism of the West.
In addition, Russian officials want to increase censorship in the country. They explain this by saying that Russians who have left the country have begun attempts to discredit the upcoming Russian presidential election.
The Russian authorities have also tried to consolidate control over the Russian information space and have stepped up measures to encourage self-censorship. Also, relatives of mobilized people may influence the elections. The number of complaints and calls for help to mobilized people has increased in Russia, despite Russia's attempts to censor them.
Presidential elections in Russia
Back in August of this year, the Russian dictator's spokesman, Dmitry Peskov, said that Putin would be re-elected for another term with more than 90% of the vote.
According to Reuters, the dictator decided to run in the March presidential election, which will allow him to remain in power until at least 2030.
Later, it was reported that Putin had approved amendments to the presidential election law that would make it more difficult to monitor fraud.
