Kremkin special envoy Kirill Dmitriev said that US President Donald Trump's new sanctions will not affect Russia. The measures will only drive up fuel prices at American gas stations, according to Dmitriev.

"They will have absolutely no impact on Russia's economy. They will only lead to higher gas prices in the United States," Dmitriev said.

He added that oil prices have already risen and will continue to grow.

"Therefore, Biden's positions and his false narratives, which are being imposed on the Trump administration, have never worked,” the Russian envoy stressed.

The issue of fuel prices is a sensitive one for Trump, as currently the average gas price in the US is around $3 per gallon. During his presidential campaign, he promised to bring it below $2 within a year.

Sanctions against Russia

The US Treasury Department announced new anti-Russian sanctions overnight on October 23 to pressure Russian President Vladimir Putin into negotiating with Ukraine.

The restrictions target Russian oil giants Rosneft and Lukoil, along with a large number of their subsidiaries.

In response, Russian leader Vladimir Putin claimed that the new US sanctions would not have a significant impact on Russia's economy.

US President Donald Trump commented on Putin's remarks, saying:

"I'm glad he feels that way. That's good. I will let you know about it in six months from now. Let's see how it works."

On October 24, Russia sent its special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, to the United States to discuss US-Russia relations.
