The possibility of a trip by the American envoys had previously been discussed publicly. Reports suggested they could visit both Kyiv and Moscow as part of diplomatic efforts to end the war.
Russia is no longer interested in periodic visits by US special envoys and is calling for a change in the format of interaction.
Moscow believes that a permanent diplomatic mechanism is required to discuss a peace settlement. This would involve the creation of working groups and regular meetings instead of occasional visits by representatives of the US administration.
In addition, Russia expects the appointment of a new US ambassador to the country, which Russian authorities believe could help establish a more stable dialogue between the two sides.
It is also important to note that Russian leader Vladimir Putin stated that European Union countries cannot act as neutral mediators in negotiations aimed at ending the war because they provide military support to Ukraine.
According to Putin, European states should focus not on acting as mediators but on finding ways to stop the fighting and facilitate agreements between the parties to the conflict.
As previously reported, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier addressed Putin in an open letter, reaffirming Kyiv's readiness to seek ways to end the war through direct negotiations.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine remains open to diplomatic mechanisms for resolving the conflict, provided they lead to a just and lasting peace.
