The Kremlin called US President Donald Trump's decision to extend sanctions against Russia for one year "automatic," citing a statement by Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, as reported by Russian media.

Peskov said that the extension of US sanctions against Russia for one year became an "automatic" decision.

He also noted that Moscow does not have inflated expectations in context of negotiations on "Ukrainian settlement."

"Negotiation process, as we have said repeatedly, is complex and stretched over time," a spokesman of the Russian president said.

Trump extended sanctions against Russia

US President Donald Trump approved extension for one year of sanctions against Russia that were imposed over invasion of Ukraine.

The decree of the American president emphasizes that the actions and policies of Russia continue to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States.

The Kremlin expects United States to lift anti-Russian sanctions. It claims that removal of sanctions against Russia corresponds to interests of United States, therefore Washington will eventually cancel them, since American business finds these restrictions unprofitable.

According to Kremlin special representative Kirill Dmitriev, restrictions have already cost American business more than 300 billion dollars in losses.

He believes that ending sanctions policy will open way for implementation of joint projects, potential of which he estimates at 14 trillion dollars.
