A Russian citizen suspected of killing two Ukrainian soldiers in Germany in April 2024 has pleaded guilty in court, DW reports.

It is reported that at the start of the court session on Monday, February 10, the defendant admitted his guilt.

"Now, in a sober state, I deeply regret what happened," he said through his lawyer.

According to the Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism of the Munich Public Prosecutor, the Russian national felt "violated in his national pride" following a dispute.

The indictment states that the suspect, who has lived in Germany since the early 1990s, is a "supporter of an exaggerated Russian nationalism" who "unreservedly advocates the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine."

Murder of Ukrainian soldiers in Germany

On April 27, 2024, two Ukrainian men, aged 23 and 36, were killed in the German town of Murnau am Staffelsee. They suffered stab wounds at a shopping center. One died at the scene, while the other died in the hospital. A 57-year-old Russian citizen was arrested on suspicion of the murder.

According to Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry, the victims were Ukrainian servicemen undergoing medical rehabilitation.

German authorities later detained the Russian suspect, and the country’s Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism took over the investigation. At the time, the Munich prosecutor’s office did not rule out a political motive.
