Joe Biden to visit Germany next week - Spiegel
US President Joe Biden wants to make up for his visit to Germany next week. The previously planned trip to Berlin was canceled due to Hurricane Milton, Spiegel reports.
The planning for the high-level visit to Berlin is already underway behind the scenes of the German federal government and security agencies. According to the current calendar, official meetings with German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Olaf Scholz are scheduled for Friday, October 18.
“Biden's Berlin visit is a kind of farewell visit of the president before the upcoming elections in early November. Initially planned as an official state visit with an official banquet and other honorable events, the program has now been significantly reduced,” Spiegel writes.
Nevertheless, it is still planned that Biden will be awarded by Steinmeier with a special degree of the Grand Cross of the Federal Order of Merit for services to German-American friendship.
Biden's visit to Berlin
Biden had planned to come to Germany for a few days. However, the visit was canceled last week due to Hurricane Milton.
However, the short visit now planned is likely to focus on the same political topics, primarily further actions by Western supporters of Ukraine and the war in the Middle East.
On October 12, a meeting in the Ramstein format was supposed to take place in Germany with the participation of US and Ukrainian Presidents Joe Biden and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and many other world leaders. However, Biden postponed his trip to Germany due to the need to prepare for a devastating hurricane in the United States.
