US Vice President JD Vance stated that any peace plan aimed at ending the war in Ukraine must include three key points, according to a post by the official on the social media platform X.

According to the US Vice President, any peace plan should:

  • Stop the killings while preserving Ukraine’s sovereignty;
  • Be acceptable to both Russia and Ukraine;
  • Maximize the chances that the war will not resume.

At the same time, he added that any criticism of the peace framework being developed by the Trump administration either misunderstands the framework or distorts the most important facts about the situation on the ground.

Vance also expressed doubt that simply providing more weapons and money would lead to victory, likely referring to aid to Ukraine.

“There is a fantasy that if we just give more money, more weapons, or more sanctions, victory is at hand. Peace won't be made by failed diplomats or politicians living in a fantasy land. It might be made by smart people living in the real world,” the US vice president concluded.

US peace plan

Recently, it became known that the US developed a new peace plan to end the war in Ukraine. The plan consists of 28 points and was drafted by Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff with the support of Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev.

According to the document, Ukraine is required to withdraw from the Donbas, reduce the size of its armed forces, give up long-range weapons, and more. In return, Axios reports, the country would receive security guarantees similar to NATO.

Sky News reports that next week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump are expected to have a phone call to discuss the plan. Media sources also report that the deadline for Ukraine to agree to the plan is November 27, which Trump himself has publicly mentioned.

Additionally, on the evening of November 21, the US president again spoke with journalists in the Oval Office. During the conversation, he said that Zelenskyy would have to either accept the agreement or continue fighting. He also added that Ukraine should make a decision quickly, as winter is cold and Russia is targeting energy infrastructure.

On the same day, November 21, Zelenskyy recorded a video address to the nation. In it, he stated that Ukraine may face a difficult choice and that this is one of the toughest moments in the country’s history.

Axios recently reported that the White House is treating the peace plan as a living document, meaning that the presented plan is not final and the US is ready to make adjustments.

According to the Wall Street Journal, EU leaders are urgently developing their own plan to end the war in Ukraine, which is intended to be more favorable for Kyiv.
