US Vice President JD Vance is on standby to enter negotiations with Iran if informal consultations lead to a direct meeting with Iranian officials, according to Politico.

Currently, the negotiations are being led by Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and the US president's son-in-law, Jared Kushner. However, according to a source, Vance could join the talks if the envoys achieve sufficient progress.

On the other hand, while the prospect of Vance's involvement demonstrates the seriousness of US intentions to find a way out of the situation, all of this creates an impression against the backdrop of Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth's promises of unprecedented strikes on Iran in the coming days.

For the most part, the Vice President has remained in the shadows throughout this time. At the same time, according to a second source, Vance has occasionally been in contact with the mediators.

Politico also notes that JD Vance was one of the last officials in the Trump administration to express support for the strikes on social media. He also avoided television appearances during the first weekend of the war.

At the same time, the White House has rejected any suggestion that the US Vice President was passive in the early stages of the conflict.

Poliico also acknowledges that for several weeks after the first strikes, Vance did participate in public events and answered questions from journalists, including an interview with Fox News on March 2 — three days after the first strikes.

Peace negotiations

The war of the US and Israel against Iran has already been going on for more than a month. At the same time, negotiations on a potential deal have been ongoing for several weeks through mediators.

On March 24, the US sent its 15-point plan to end the war to Pakistan. However, Iran rejected it and sent back a list of counter-proposals. So far, there are no results. However, it became known overnight that Iran, through Pakistan, presented a 10-point plan to end the war.

Incidentally, CNN recently reported that US President Donald Trump rejected a 45-day ceasefire proposal put forward by Pakistan, Egypt, and Türkiye.
