Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi has decided to nominate US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, Reuters reports.
Takaichi personally informed Trump of her decision and intention during their meeting in Tokyo.
"In such a short period of time the world started to enjoy more peace," Takaichi said during her conversation with Trump.
Trump and Nobel Peace Prize
This year, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly boasted that he has ended seven wars that have lasted for decades. In particular, he recently forced Hamas to agree to a peace deal with Israel in accordance with the US plan to end the war in the Gaza Strip.
Earlier, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet said that his country would also nominate Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his contribution to resolving the conflict with Thailand.
Before that, the Pakistani government announced similar plans after resolving a dispute with India. In addition, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stressed in mid-October that awarding Trump the Nobel Peace Prize was only a matter of time.
Despite this, the Norwegian Nobel Committee decided to award the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan politician Maria Corina Machado.
Machado did indeed dedicate the Nobel Peace Prize to US President Donald Trump.
Trump later spoke with Nobel Peace Prize laureate Maria Corina Machado, who dedicated her award to him. The conversation took place after the Trump administration criticized the Nobel Committee's decision, calling it political.
