Ukraine has received nearly $1.3 billion from the Japanese government under the World Bank’s PEACE in Ukraine project, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to the Prime Minister, the funds have been credited to the general fund of the state budget and will be allocated to social spending.

This is the second tranche from Japan, financed under the G7’s Extraordinary Revenue Acceleration for Ukraine mechanism. Its total volume amounts to $50 billion.

Since February 2022, budgetary support from Japan has exceeded $10.7 billion, of which more than $2.7 billion has come in the form of grants.

"I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Government of Japan for the grant provided, as well as to the World Bank for its effective coordination of international support. This assistance is of critical importance for ensuring Ukraine’s financial stability," Svyrydenko notes.

Japan’s aid to Ukraine

In January, Japan announced the allocation of $6 billion to Ukraine for humanitarian and technical support in 2026.

Japan also intends to join the NATO initiative that allows for the supply of American-made ammunition, equipment, and other resources to Ukraine.

Additionally, Japan is considering the purchase of Ukrainian-made strike drones for its own Self-Defense Forces. The main reason is the successful use of this technology in real combat conditions against Russian aggression.
