J.D. Vance hints at possible trade deal with United Kingdom

The US and the UK could make a great deal on trade because of President Donald Trump's love for the country and its royal family, US Vice President J.D. Vance says.
Vance said the US administration was working very closely with Prime Minister Keir Starmer's government on a trade deal.
"The President really loves the United Kingdom. He loved the Queen. He admires and loves the King. It is a very important relationship. And he’s a businessman and has a number of important business relationships in [Britain]," he said.
Trump, he said, is a businessman and has many important business connections in Britain.
"But I think it’s much deeper than that. There’s a real cultural affinity. And of course, fundamentally America is an Anglo country," the Vice President said.
So "I think there’s a good chance that, yes, we’ll come to a great agreement that’s in the best interest of both countries," Vance added.
The US Vice President said other European countries would probably also reach an agreement with the US, although the process would be more difficult.
"With the United Kingdom, we have a much more reciprocal relationship than we have with, say, Germany… While we love the Germans, they are heavily dependent on exporting to the United States but are pretty tough on a lot of American businesses that would like to export into Germany," he said.
Trump tariffs
Trump stopped short of imposing higher tariffs on Britain when he first announced the tariffs on April 2. But British imports to the US are now subject to a 10% tariff, while its steel and automotive sectors are subject to a 25% rate.
Officials from both countries have been holding talks for weeks, initially focused on expanding cooperation in artificial intelligence and technology, but could also expand to include food and other goods.
Even before the 90th tariff pause, Donald Trump said that countries were calling him, "dying" and "kissing his a**" for a new trade deal.
