Italian Eurofighters intercepted Russian aircraft over Baltic Sea twice within day
During the current day, Italian Air Force Eurofighters carried out a double interception of Russian aircraft over the Baltic Sea, reports the Italian news agency ANSA.
These Eurofighter jets are part of the 4th Operational Group, which operates from the Polish base in Malbork.
"The alert, launched from the NATO command center based in Uedem (Germany), was triggered yesterday and today morning for an unidentified aircraft flying over the international waters of the Baltic Sea," the agency reports.
The publication notes that after identifying the Russian aircraft and conducting observations, the Italian fighters returned to their base in Malbork.
Similar incidents
On March 25, the Ministry of Defense of Lithuania reported that NATO fighters were scrambled into the air five times a week to identify and escort Russian aircraft.
It was also reported that at the end of February, Germany raised a Eurofighter jet to intercept a Russian military aircraft Il-20M, which was detected in the vicinity of Finland.
Furthermore, the Danish Air Force intercepted two Russian bombers flying "toward NATO territory."
Additionally, Norwegian F-35 aircraft recently intercepted Russian bombers and fighters detected near NATO airspace.
