Norwegian F-35s intercepted Russian bombers and fighters
Norwegian F-35 planes intercepted Russian bombers and fighters yesterday. They were detected near the airspace of the North Atlantic Alliance, according to NATO's Air Command.
"F-35 scrambled yesterday from Evenes, Norway due to Russian aircraft flying close to NATO Allied airspace," the statement reads.
Norway's fifth-generation fighters identified
- 2 Tu-160 bombers;
- 2 MiG-31s;
- 2 Il-78 tankers.
NATO notes that after encountering the F-35s, the Russian aircraft returned to their country.
Russian provocations
It's worth noting that Russians have frequently used their aircraft for provocations.
For instance, at the beginning of 2023, three Russian military aircraft violated Polish airspace. They were intercepted by two Dutch F-35 fighters.
Moreover, in August this year, American air defense systems detected four military aircraft from the aggressor country near Alaska.
