Scope of Iran's support for Russia
The Ukrainian president emphasized that the Iranian regime voluntarily chose to back the Kremlin, even though Ukraine has never threatened Tehran.
Since the start of the full-scale invasion, Russia has deployed tens of thousands of drones against Ukraine.
"Over the course of this full-scale war, the Russians have used more than 57,000 shahed-type attack drones against Ukraine—against our people, against our cities, and against our energy infrastructure," Zelenskyy said.
He added that other nations also suffer from Iranian terror, and removing such a regime offers a chance for security across the region.
Ukraine's stance
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine supports preserving lives and preventing the war from spreading. He stressed that the position of international partners plays a crucial role.
"It is important that the United States is acting decisively. Whenever there is American resolve, global criminals weaken," he underlined.
Middle East escalation
The situation in the Middle East sharply escalated after Israel carried out a preemptive strike on targets in Iran.
US President Donald Trump compared the scale of the current events in the region to the largest operations during the Iraq war.
Amid the escalation, Ukraine's Foreign Ministry urged citizens to avoid traveling to several Middle Eastern countries.
At the same time, Ukraine expressed solidarity with the Iranian people amid the regional escalation and accused the authorities in Tehran of using terrorist methods and repression. The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also called on Ukrainian citizens to urgently leave Iran due to the heightened danger.
