ISW revealed new tactic by Ukrainian army that reduces combat effectiveness of Russian army
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have begun targeting tactical command posts and positions of the Russian army in areas near the front line. In doing so, the Defense Forces aim to complicate the command and control of the Russian military on the battlefield, reports the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
The department does not rule out that the Ukrainian military's attacks on key command posts in the Russian rear, including the strike on January 8 against the Russian post of the 8th Army Aviation, are likely aimed at degrading broader Russian efforts in logistics and operational planning. This could affect Russia's ability to conduct its military operations in the western part of the Donetsk region.
"ISW has observed that the 2nd CAA is currently leading Russian operations south of Pokrovsk, that the 3rd AC is operating near Chasiv Yar, and that the 8th CAA is leading Russian efforts near Kurakhove," the report states.
Attacks on Russian military command posts
On Sunday, January 12, the Defense Forces carried out an airstrike on the command post of the 2nd Guards Combined Arms Army of Russia. The post is located in the city of Novohrodivka, Donetsk region.
On January 10, the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the command post of the 3rd Army Corps of the Russian Army in Svitlodarsk.
On January 8, Ukrainian defenders struck the command post of the 8th Guards Combined Arms Army of Russia, which the invaders had set up in the captured town of Khartsyzk, Donetsk region.
