Israeli Defense Minister announces start of 'next phase' of war against Hezbollah
The next phase of Israel's war against the Lebanese group Hezbollah will soon begin. This further indicates that the IDF plans to start a ground operation in Lebanon, states Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
"The next phase in the war against Hezbollah will begin soon. It will be a significant factor in changing the security situation and will allow us to complete the important (mission - ed.) of returning the residents to their homes," Gallant stated.
According to him, the Israeli military plans to "shift the center of gravity to the north."
Escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hezbollah
On September 28, the Israeli army launched a massive strike on Lebanese territory, during which the leader of Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, was eliminated.
Yesterday, militants fired at northern regions of Israel, prompting the IDF to respond by destroying the launch site from which the fire was directed.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Israel may begin a ground invasion of Lebanon as early as this week.
Meanwhile, the United States is urging Israel to refrain from initiating a military operation in Lebanon and insists on seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
