Israel strikes Iran’s largest petrochemical complex

Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz says that Israeli forces have struck Iran’s largest petrochemical complex in Asaluye, Reuters reports.
According to the Iranian Fars news agency, several explosions were heard in the area of the South Pars petrochemical complex in Asaluyeh.
Citing Tasnim, facilities that supply the area with electricity, water, and oxygen are hit. At the same time, the Pars petrochemical company itself, according to Iranian sources, does not sustain damage.
Following the attack, electricity supply to all petrochemical facilities in Asaluyeh is cut off.
The strike on Asaluyeh marks another episode of attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure. In March, Israel already struck the South Pars gas field and related infrastructure in the same area.
At that time, the attack affects Iran’s main energy source and triggers a response from Tehran in the form of strikes on energy facilities in the Middle East.
What precedes this
The US and Israel operation against Iran has been ongoing since late February and already stretches for more than a month. US President Donald Trump recently stated that Washington intends to end the war within two to three weeks, while also threatening Iran with a very powerful strike.
On the same day, Trump says that US and Israeli forces destroyed Iran’s largest B1 bridge connecting Tehran and Karaj, and again urges Tehran to reach a deal. Despite this, Iran denies US claims about alleged requests for a ceasefire.
At the same time, as Sky News reports, Israel expects US approval to strike Iran’s energy facilities. According to a senior Israeli defense official, such attacks could happen in the near future — and the current strike on Asaluye appears to be a continuation of this pressure line.
