Israel strikes Damascus in Syria, famous local TV host among dead
Israel has struck Damascus in Syria, resulting in the deaths of three people, including a well-known local television host, according to CNN.
As mentioned earlier, among the victims is the prominent Syrian TV presenter Safaa Ahmed. Her death was confirmed by Syria’s General Directorate of Radio and Television.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense stated that Israel attacked Damascus using drones and aircraft around 2 AM from the "direction of the occupied Golan Heights."
"Our air defense systems confronted the aggression’s missiles and drones and shot down most of them," the ministry said, adding that nine people were injured during the attack.
CNN reports that, according to videos circulating online, an explosion during the attack occurred near a building belonging to the Syrian telecommunications operator, west of the city's military airport. However, it remains unclear if this is where Ahmed was killed, as local media have not provided additional details.
Middle East situation
In recent weeks, clashes between Israel and the Lebanon-based Hezbollah group, supported by Iran, have intensified. On Saturday, September 28, the IDF launched a massive airstrike on Lebanese territory, killing Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah.
Additionally, last night, October 1, the IDF began ground raids in southern Lebanon as part of an operation against Hezbollah.
