The Hezbollah group carried out a massive attack on Israeli military facilities, targeting air defense systems. The militants report dozens of strikes over the past 24 hours, reports Anadolu.

The Lebanese militants claimed 12 separate operations. Positions in southern Lebanon and northern Israel came under fire. The attacks included strikes on military equipment and command posts.

The militants also attempted to disable drone jamming systems. The group's statement noted that the attacks were a response to Israel's violations of the ceasefire regime and attacks on southern villages.

"Iron Dome" is not so "iron" after all

The main target was air defense systems. Hezbollah is trying to breach the enemy's defenses. Four launch systems of the Iron Dome at the Branit and Ramim barracks were hit by FPV drones.

In addition, other strategic targets were attacked:

  • Three Drone Dome counter‑drone systems;
  • A military engineering vehicle in the town of Bint Jbeil;
  • A technical device and a command vehicle at the Jal Al-Allam training ground.

Also recorded was an attack on an Israeli Heron 1 drone over the Beqaa region. A surface‑to‑air missile was fired at it, forcing the drone to retreat.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called drones a serious threat and urged the military to develop ways to counter them.

Context of the attack on the Iron Dome

This is not the first time Hezbollah has attacked valuable missile defense systems with simple drones. Just two weeks ago, the militants announced a successful attack.

As early as mid‑March, former head of Israel's air defense, Ran Kochav, warned that the army was not adequately protecting its most valuable assets — referring to the Iron Dome, David's Sling, and Arrow systems.

Overall, the two sides are currently observing a ceasefire with periodic flare‑ups of gunfire and attacks. The next round of negotiations between the parties is scheduled for June 2 and 3.
