Israel intercepts Houthi missile launched at Tel Aviv airport

The Israel Defense Forces intercepted a missile launched by the Houthis from Yemeni territory at Ben Gurion Airport, according to the IDF's Telegram channel and The Times of Israel.
It was reported that on March 21, around 10:30 p.m., air raid sirens sounded in several areas of Israel. Later, the military intercepted a missile launched from Yemeni territory before it crossed into Israeli territory.
The attack was claimed by Yemeni Houthi rebels. They stated that their target was Ben Gurion Airport.
In their statement, the militants warn all airlines that the so-called Ben-Gurion Airport has become dangerous for air traffic and will remain so until the aggression against Gaza stops and the blockade is lifted.
The Houthis also reported launching more drones at US military ships in the Red Sea, which had carried out strikes on their targets in Yemen.
Escalation between the US and Yemeni Houthis
Since October 2023, after the war in the Gaza Strip between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas began, the Houthis have started attacking commercial vessels passing through the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Red Sea in both directions.
In late February 2025, US President Donald Trump issued an executive order recognizing the Yemeni Houthis as a terrorist organization.
On March 15, US forces struck dozens of terrorist targets in Yemen.
The Trump administration explained this as a campaign against piracy, violence, and terrorism. Additionally, the White House aimed to pressure Iran into signing a peace agreement, as every step of the Houthis is dictated by Tehran.
During the US strikes, several Houthi leaders were killed.
On March 20, Israel was attacked from Yemen with two ballistic missiles, but the military intercepted them. According to the Houthis, they were also targeting Ben-Gurion Airport.
