Houthis launch ballistic missile at airport near Tel Aviv: Israel claims interception

The Israeli military stated that they had intercepted a missile launched from Yemen on Thursday morning. Earlier, the Houthis claimed responsibility, saying they had launched a ballistic missile at an airport near Tel Aviv, Reuters reports.
"A missile launched from Yemen was intercepted by the IAF (Israeli Air Force - ed.) prior to crossing into Israeli territory. Sirens were sounded in accordance with protocol," the Israeli military said in a statement.
Before this, Yemeni Houthi militants, despite the waves of American strikes that began on Saturday, launched a ballistic missile toward Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. In particular, a military representative of the groups reported this during a televised statement.
Recently, Yemeni Houthis promised to intensify their attacks, particularly targeting Israel, in response to the US campaign. The reports indicated that the group would expand its range of targets in this country.
At the same time, Reuters notes that the US strikes on Yemen, which began on Saturday due to attacks on ships in the Red Sea, constitute Washington's largest military operation in the Middle East since Donald Trump took office as US President in January 2025. As a result, at least 31 people were killed.
Trump also threatened on Monday to hold Iran accountable for any future Houthi attacks, warning of serious consequences. In response, Iran's Revolutionary Guards stated that the Houthis are independent and make their own strategic and operational decisions.
The agency added that since the start of Israel's war with Hamas in late 2023, the Houthis have carried out more than 100 attacks on shipping, claiming they act in solidarity with the Palestinians in Gaza. These attacks, in turn, have disrupted global trade and prompted the US military to launch an expensive campaign to intercept missiles.
As previously reported, according to US Presidential Advisor Mike Waltz, Washington's strikes on Yemen on March 15 were directed at and destroyed several Houthi leaders.
