Israeli aviation launched an airstrike on the city of Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip. As a result, the head of Hamas' internal security forces, Hassam Shahwan, was eliminated, according to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) on Telegram.

The Israel Defense Forces reported that the strike on Khan Younis was carried out on Wednesday night.

According to the IDF, Hamas' internal security forces had been conducting brutal interrogations of Gaza Strip residents, violating human rights and suppressing dissent within the organization.

Shahwan himself was responsible for preparing intelligence data in coordination with elements of Hamas' military wing during attacks on the IDF in the Gaza Strip.

"Prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of precise munitions, aerial surveillance, and additional intelligence," the IDF emphasized.

Israel eliminates Hamas commanders

Since the beginning of the war against Hamas militants, Israel has already eliminated several commanders.

On December 24, it was reported that Israeli military forces killed Tharwat Muhammad Ahmed Albeck, who was the head of the Hamas Palestinian group's Security Directorate.

Recently, Israel also acknowledged for the first time that it was responsible for the elimination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran.
