Israeli military aviation carried out a strike overnight on March 16 at an airport in Tehran, destroying an aircraft used by Iran’s supreme leader, according to the Israel Defense Forces.
“Overnight, the Israel Defense Forces carried out a precise strike and destroyed an aircraft used by the Supreme Leader of the Iranian terrorist regime at Mehrabad Airport in Tehran,” the Israeli military said in a statement.
The aircraft was reportedly used by Ali Khamenei, Iran’s supreme leader, as well as other senior officials and Iranian military personnel, and operated both domestic and international flights.
“The destruction of the aircraft disrupts the Iranian regime leadership’s coordination capabilities. As a result of the precision strike, another strategic asset of the regime was destroyed,” the Israeli military added.
Is the Middle East conflict nearing its end?
Earlier, it was reported that Israel plans to continue its military campaign against Iran for at least three more weeks, as “thousands” of targets reportedly remain.
Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal, citing its sources, reported that some advisers to Donald Trump have begun urging him to end the war against Iran.
This comes amid rising oil prices and concerns that a prolonged war could negatively affect the situation ahead of the US congressional by-elections.
At the same time, Donald Trump has publicly stated that the United States has effectively already won the war against Iran. According to him, this supposedly happened in the first hours of the operation.
According to Reuters, Trump’s aides are now debating how and when to announce victory over Iran.
