Israel and Hezbollah agree to ceasefire after Iran deal collapses

On Friday, June 19, Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire following a flare-up of conflict in Lebanon, according to Axios correspondent Barak Ravid and Reuters.
"A senior US official tells me: Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a renewed ceasefire in Lebanon starting at 4p.m. Iocal time. The new agreement was brokered by the US and Qatar after talks with Israel and Iran," Ravid wrote on X.
He noted that the new deal was brokered by the US and Qatar following talks with Israel and Iran.
Reuters reported that US-Iran talks in Switzerland, scheduled for today, were canceled due to the escalation of fighting in Lebanon.
"We understand that after the exchange of fire earlier today, Israel and Hezbollah are now in a ceasefire," a US official said.
According to a senior Hezbollah official, Iran stated that talks with the US cannot proceed without a comprehensive ceasefire.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson did not mention the talks directly but stated that the United States bears direct responsibility for Israeli attacks on Lebanon. The spokesperson added that Tehran would take all necessary measures to protect its interests.
As previously reported, on the night of June 18, US President Donald Trump announced that Washington and Tehran had reached a framework agreement. The parties were able to resolve all key issues and approve the arrangements remotely.
Following the announcement, Trump ordered a complete halt to maritime operations in Iranian ports and surrounding waters.
Over the next 60 days, the United States and Iran are expected to draft and finalize a comprehensive peace agreement. One of the central issues in the negotiations will be Iran's nuclear program.
