US forces have fully lifted the naval blockade of Iranian ports and coastal areas in accordance with an order from the US president, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM) on Twitter (X).

What the decision entails

US military forces will no longer interfere with the transit of any civilian or cargo vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports through the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman.

All military measures aimed at enforcing the blockade have now been fully suspended by order of US President Donald Trump.

Despite this, powerful US warships will remain in the region. They will monitor the situation to ensure compliance with and the full implementation of all aspects of the agreement.

US-Iran agreement

The United States and Iran have previously re-signed a memorandum of understanding on ending the war and reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which has already officially entered into force.

The signing ceremony was expected to take place in Switzerland, but the parties decided to implement the agreement more quickly.

In Tehran, the results of the negotiations were positively assessed, with officials emphasizing that the deal with the US has brought more security than continuing hostilities. Thanks to the reached diplomatic compromise and the declared ceasefire in Lebanon, more than half of internally displaced persons were able to return to their homes within the first day.
