Ukraine is not currently in a strong enough position to begin negotiations with Russia, particularly due to a lack of sufficient weapons, stated the Head of the Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak in an interview, conducted by journalist Vadym Karpiak.

Karpiak asked Yermak whether Ukraine is strong enough to start negotiations with Russia now.

"Not yet. We lack weapons, we lack the status that we say we need - we need an invitation to NATO - and clear guarantees to ensure that we can be confident Putin won’t return in 2-3 years," Yermak stated.

He emphasized the need to counter Russian narratives claiming that Ukraine is unwilling to negotiate. Yermak highlighted that Ukraine neither wanted war nor provoked Russia.

Ukraine-Russia negotiations

The possibility of negotiations between Ukraine and Russia has gained attention in the West, particularly following Donald Trump's election as US President.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk recently suggested that peace talks between Ukraine and Russia could potentially begin this winter.

Trump has called for a swift ceasefire between Ukraine and Russia, followed by negotiations. He believes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to reach a peace agreement.
