According to the US president, the "Iran’s new regime" president allegedly approached Washington requesting a ceasefire. Trump also described Iran’s new leadership as less radical and more intelligent than the previous one.
"We will consider when the Hormuz Strait is open, free, and clear," Trump said.
If this condition is not met, the American leader again issued sharp threats against Tehran, stating that the United States could "blast Iran into oblivion" or "send it back to the Stone Ages."
What preceded this
Amid the current statements about a possible ceasefire, Donald Trump’s position on Iran in recent days has appeared contradictory. At first, he claimed that indirect contacts with Tehran were "progressin well" and that a deal could be reached very quickly, but later he returned to issuing tough ultimatums.
Trump said that if Iran does not agree to an arrangement and does not reopen the Strait of Hormuz, the US will "blow up and completely destroy" all power plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island. At the same time, he had already suggested that there may be no deal with Tehran at all.
Later, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said that Washington continues to adhere to the previously announced timeline for the operation — 4–6 weeks, of which 30 days have already passed.
At the same time, according to media reports, Trump later indicated to his aides that he would be ready to stop the war even if the Strait of Hormuz remains largely closed.
