Iran planned to assassinate Trump - US Justice Department
The US Department of Justice has charged an Iranian national involved in a plot to assassinate President-elect Donald Trump, according to the US Department of Justice. Farhad Shakeri
Iranian Farhad Shakeri told law enforcement that he was instructed to provide a plan to assassinate Trump. However, Shakeri emphasized he did not intend to develop such a plan for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
"Shakeri has informed law enforcement that he was tasked on Oct. 7, 2024, with providing a plan to kill President-elect Donald J. Trump. During the interview, Shakeri claimed he did not intend to propose a plan to kill Trump within the timeframe set by the IRGC," the document states.
It was also revealed during questioning that the IRGC had instructed Shakeri to target other US and Israeli citizens on American soil.
The hitman disclosed he was assigned to surveil two American Jewish citizens in New York, with an offer of $500,000 from an IRGC official for one assassination. Additionally, he was tasked with monitoring Israeli tourists in Sri Lanka.
This year, Trump has reportedly faced two assassination attempts.
In early August, Trump’s campaign reported a cyber breach, and Google later reported that Iran targeted around a dozen individuals associated with Biden, Harris, and Trump in an ongoing phishing attack.
As a result, Trump, citing threats from Iran, began requesting additional security protection.
